- At first I was bummed to see that there wasn't a kindle version of the book but then I got my hands on a copy and understood why not. This isn't just another read it and forget it book. - I devoured this entire book in two days. Yes, I couldn’t put it down. The 3 word rebellion was well written, with just the right amount of useful stories, and plenty of practical exercises to get you to your message. And she encourages you / leaves room to write in the book.
Usually when I read businsss books, it’s all about upselling you, with boring stories proving their worth etc... This book is nothing like that.

- I'm going to preface this review with the fact that I have Aspergers; So there's a few social skills I have a natural difficulty with. For me these include things like reading body language, eye contact, determining if something is literal or figurative, etc.
While I do understand body language, It doesn't always come naturally to me - I might miss seemingly obvious things like someone doing the "Come here" motion with their hand, Someone needing me to get something for them that's behind me and pointing at it (but without verbally saying it), etc. A book like this is incredibly valuable to me, since it shows me what the body language looks like and what it means or may mean. Since I don't always recognize these things, even moreso than most people - This book is worth it's weight in gold to me. - Beyond useful in all walks of life. The only warning I have for people, beware the literal power this book possesses. If you read it a section at a time and then look for that item, you will start to see how much people actually lie in general conversation.
If you are a people watcher, this book will provide insight light years beyond what you think you understand.
It also can help people who are a bit socially ackward with feeling comfortable around people they do not know. - Each of us, instinctively, look at the faces of people with which we converse. We also take a generalized wide field view of their body language. We decide friend or foe rather quickly, displeased or happy, the very general view of who we are encountering. We OBSERVE things like people rubbing their sweaty palms on their thighs or tapping their toes, or licking their lips, but those we just "see" without thinking about. After reading this book you will notice stuff like that and see if it applies, which means you are thinking which means you paid attention to the book. You will quickly identify every one of the "tells" in the book, in yourself and others, but now you will think about what you see.

A phenomenal book! I will now look at everybody in a different way, and try not to be creepy when I pay attention to their body language, haha.
Seriously, though, this was fascinating. I originally read this book partly because I wanted more insight into writing the bodily gestures of my characters during dialogues, but of course, these tips are useful for my daily interactions with others too.
One thing I realized for writing body language in fiction, is that even though we can see gestures in detail in real life, we may not necessarily describe these gestures with so much precision in our books one, because readers might not understand what it means or they might even misunderstand; two, when we interpret someone’s facial expression, we may jump to the emotion without consciously processing what physical gestures expressed that emotion. So we’ d think “her gaze turned wistful†rather than a detailed portrayal of her eyebrow, pupil, mouth, etc. movements.
I really liked the general principle of spotting comfort versus discomfort behaviors, as this heuristic makes everything easier to understand. And I appreciate how honest Joe is in telling us that there is no sure-fire way to know if someone is lying or not. Real life is never that simple to figure out.
The only reason why I took off 0.1 stars, was because I was led to believe by a certain paragraph in the book that we would see a chapter on people’s idiosyncratic, personal bodily gestures. So I was disappointed to find that I was mistaken.
Still, this was a fabulous book! Highly recommended! - The impact this book has had a dramatic impact on the way I view human interactions. Before reading this book, I scarcely understood body language and non-verbal communication; now, thanks to this brilliant work by Joe Navarro and Marvin Karlins, I understand why some people seem more confident than others when they speak, how adopting different techniques can allow one to become more persuasive when speaking, what to look for when attempting to detect deception, etc. This book is more than a just a work of non-fiction it is a guide to help you understand how non-verbal communication effects human interactions. Thanks to this book, I've begun using some of the techniques the authors recommend to become more self-assured in communicating effectively and convincingly; this book as also given me the tools necessary to gauge what another person's thoughts are when I'm communicating with them, as a great deal of human interaction depends on understanding others through their body language. I will be referring back to this book many times in the future, as the wealth of knowledge that is explicated throughout this work is so valuable that it necessitates consistent review and contemplation. Plus, the book is written a way that makes it immediately accessible even to those who do little reading, so I won't have to worry about becoming confused by vague language when referring back to a specific page or technique. I loved reading this book, and I find myself continuously enjoying it whenever I refer back to it to help clarify any uncertainty I may have after interacting with another person. Whether you want to better understand what your significant other is thinking or feeling, what to do to come across as more friendly and inviting to strangers, or simply improve your non-verbal intelligence, this book will surely help you do all of that and more.
- I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son who is feeding is newer interest in psychology and counseling. My wife and I started reading it before we wrapped it up for him and enjoyed it, though we only spent about a half an hour with it. The content reminded me of how the TV series "Lie to Me" might have started.
The book is very straight forward, making it an easy read. The author doesn't waste any words and gives straight content without any fluff throughout. There are many black and white photos to supplement each section of the book's content. This would make a good read for anybody with an entry level curiosity for this subject matter.

- After reading some so-so books, this was a breath of fresh air! You could tell the author but a lot of effort into creating this book. It did occasionally get a bit boring to read but for how much amazing information is in here, I really don’t care!
I’ve always thought of myself as very emotionally intelligent and yet I learned so much and was convicted too many times in this book - which is a good thing!
What I loved the most is that they didn’t tell you shove your emotions away but to really embrace them so they they can’t control you. Have something from your past that is hindering you? Deal with it. Embrace it and learn what it means to move on.
I am recommending this to a few friends of mine who have been looking for something like this!

What makes this new world unique?
In the Sun-Blessed Trilogy, the magical system is tied to childbirth. I love the miracle of birth, and tying magic to such an incredible event felt natural and appropriate. Some of the heroes in this series are midwives, who pass magic on to sun-blessed children and later train these same children to use their gifts.What audiences is the series appropriate for?
This trilogy is clean fantasy. There is no cursing, explicit sexual content, or gory violence. It’s appropriate for teen and adult audiences. I wanted to write a series my own kids could read, and I’m happy to provide an exciting, quality story that a wide variety of ages will enjoy.
Reading Order

WOW!!
I’m so glad I waited for the trilogy to start listening to this!
It’s a magnificent masterpiece with unique world building, growing characters and deep cause and effects.
It’s meaningful, deep, and lingers long after you leave the world.
Relationships are forged, fringed, and rekindled.
The romance is sweet and you watch it truly grow from acquaintance, friendship, to more. No insta-love/lust. No love triangles.
The magic, the training, the explanations were enthralling and easy to follow.
It’s sprinkled with messages of self love and growing one’s self esteem and confidence. I’m excited for young girls to find this book and link the subtle values to provide strength and guidance to their chaotic worlds.
My few quirks included confusion about Misty, the older sister we meet in the prologue who disappears until over halfway through.
A few of the chapters time skipped ahead, but then it ‘recaps and tells us we missed’.
The world building was crazy incredibly fabulous, but the ‘mile markers and streets in the horse ridden world seemed ... odd.
But it IS a STELLAR fantasy adventure (the sci fi genre might be misleading) rooted deeply in their magic and religion. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book.
Carol Beth Anderson narrated her book and it’s the icing on the cake! Characters have their own voices and she brilliantly added urgency as needed.
Book 2

A compelling sequel! Intricate character development through adverse heartbreak and impending malevolent series of events.
We meet new characters who are sweet and lively and add exuberance to the cast. They were easy to fall in love with - a little too easily?
Time skips are briefer but it still rewinds to explain ‘what was missed’.
The second book was very slow as Tavi works through her grief. She has an inner battle that is baffling. She wants to be a lone ranger yet she’s clueless. She doesn’t want to be with the team but her wallowing seems to blind her from the big picture. She was more of a pawn than a possible heroine, and it was disappointing.
The writing, plot, and characters are intriguing and the final book calls to me.
Book 3

As the trilogy comes to a conclusion, I realize I enjoyed the book but wish there was more. Not more like another book, but more like more details and relationship building (or destroying).
We are introduced to more characters as the Resistance grows. It’s good to see Tavi struggles and makes her own decisions regarding her trust/mistrust of the Greys in her circle. But I feel like it was too much at times.
Tavi certainly should have sought help at the Healing House (Why was the Healing House brought up so many times, yet never really played a viable role - only offscreen with a parent?) as she is still grieving over the death from the first chapters in book 2? It (the death) really started to feel like The Death was it’s own character and it became annoying.
I thought the Colonel and the gardener would have a more central role when we followed them at the beginning... but then they disappeared until the climax. Nice tie - in, but it felt too contrived and instead of a HOORAY, it was like waves lapping at my toes.
I didn’t like that the author kept all of her cards to herself and didn’t trust the readers to draw their conclusions, true or false.
I think readers may enjoy this more if they don’t desire a book where they are included in the ride, but go along for the ride. There’s still more telling than showing and backtracking to explain ... and the caverns - what a total loss of description opportunity. - The trilogy is phenomenal; I read it in two weeks! The characters and Carol Beth Anderson's intriguing story line drew me in. I went through every range of emotion with the trilogy, from beginning to end. The creativity was fantastic, and I had that wonderful feeling of experiencing being immersed so much in the story, that it was hard to let go and realize I was finished! Absolutely a must-read!

- This series was so good. All of the characters were well developed and easy to fall in love with. The story moved quickly and had a new surprise around every corner. My kids have started reading it and are both in love. It’s a great story to read both adult and young adult.
- But, couldn't get past the first 4 chapters. The audio is read by the author and she sounds to be in her 70's with a gravelly voice. Couldn't take the narration for more then 20 minutes.

- As an eager reader of young adult fiction and fantasy novels, I highly recommend this trilogy. The story is set in a somewhat familiar world with some magical twists, charming and intriguing characters that will grab a hold of your heart, and a number of action-filled, edge of your seat plot developments! I would read this to/with my almost-8-year old but the trilogy would easily delight & hold the attention of a teen/adult reader!
