The Urban Sketching Handbook Working with Color Urban Sketching Handbooks edition by Shari Blaukopf Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

  • Not really a "how to" or tutorial book, but more of a "here's ideas to consider when you sketch" approach. It respects the reader's ability to make those connections to their own interests, and I appreciate that aspect. The illustrations are appropriate and interesting, the book itself is small enough to easily carry if one wished to do so, and the text is to-the-point without a lot of filler. This last point is important to me. As an art teacher, I've seen more than my share of titles that take half the book to explain in excruciating detail the same tired cliches found in thousands of other titles that preceded them. A guide should do precisely that; this one does.
  • Why would anyone publish a book with most of its text in tiny gray print? I am a fan of Urban Sketching, a fan of Veronica Lawlor, and a fan of several of the individual artists who contributed their sketches to this book. But I feel like getting a magnifying glass to read it.
  • I love every one of the books in this series. Haven't run across a bad one yet. I keep them on my desk and refer back form time to time. Very useful and I love the size of the book. Easy to pick up and throw in your bag and thumb through as time allows.
  • This book personally to me has some very interesting, pretty, and inspiring sketches within it but I wouldn't recommend this book at full price. It you see a well priced used copy I would recommend any artist to get it.
  • Wonderful book! Terrific guidance on creating richer more meaningful reportage sketches.
  • Excellent book! Highly recommend it.
  • I am familiar with a lot of the artists in the book so it's fun to see their work here all in one spot
  • Book met expectations. Service was competent & fast. Thank you.
